Our Board of Directors
Jasmine Scott is an ambitious and courageous young woman who has a passion for the success of our youth. She has served in several different capacities that will allow her to sow seeds in to their lives. Through her own life experiences, she has learned of the time and dedication that is necessary to impact the lives of our youth.
Jasmine studied Sociology at Illinois State University. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Psychiatry. Jasmine is currently employed with Legacy Clinic as a Medication Specialist. In her past tenure, Jasmine has served on the Board of the Red Cross of Greater Houston and Bering Omega Community Services.
Rebecca Trevino is committed to fostering youth’s growth and development. She began her work with advocacy and activism for youth empowerment while working with the Texas Freedom Network/Advocates for Youth from 2011-2013. In 2013 she focused her efforts on direct service while serving as a summer camp counselor at Camp Mira Sol with the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas and, continued her service in 2014-2015 while serving as an AmeriCorps Member with Harris County Department of Education’s CASE Kid’s Day Project.
Rebecca is currently working to attain her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Texas Southern University and is a Licensed Massage Therapist. She is excited about serving as the Vice President for the Board of Directors of VISION Inc. and looks forward to the great opportunities that are ahead.
Sharenita Burkhalter is a member of the Black Social Worker's Organization and she has attended and graduated from Houston Community College with an Associates of Art of Voice and Texas Southern University with a Baccalaureate of Social Work. Currently, she is in pursuit of her Masters of Social Work. Her mantra is “friends are like elevator buttons, they will either bring you up or they will bring you down, so be careful who you call a friend”.
Sharenita has been working with children for over 10 years. Through teaching children’s choir, praise dancing, and character development she has realized that we all need someone to look up to. That’s when she decided to mentor. Sharenita is an Americorps Alumnus and she believes that you can’t save the whole world but you can do what you can from where you are.
Marica "Missy" Smith has a Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration at The University of Arlington. Throughout her career, she has become an entrepreneur serving in several capacities. Marica's most recent venture is 2nd Nature Safety in which she offers several trainings to current & potential industrial workers and employers. 2nd Nature Safety has been vastly successful in changing lives!
In 2014 Marica was awarded the Company Safety Award by the Houston Area Safety Council. Marica has always been a leader and enjoys using her skills to help others; especially young men. As she has a son on an AAU Basketball team, Marica is very active in making sure the team is successful in all aspects of the word. She prides herself on being business minded and optimistic in every situation.
Chasidy Celestine is an alumnus from Stephen F. Austin State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Journalism-Advertising, and a minor in Marketing.
Chasidy currently serves as an Outreach Coordinator for CASE for Kids, a division of the Harris County Department of Education. In her experience, she's had the opportunity to help coordinate major events, participate in community outreach events, assists with organizational marketing and assist with program development.
As native Houstonian from the third ward community Cedric Thomas understands problems effecting our youth. For 7 years, he established his career in the school systems working various project based roles. The projects targeted at risk youth, a classification that he arose from.
Prior to his work in education, Cedric studied Communication in undergraduate and Business Administration in graduate school. Mr. Thomas now practices real estate where he is a licensed Realtor in the State of Texas.
Tyonne A. Boyd-Godfrey is the wife of Bobby Godfrey and the first lady of Abundance of Hope Family Center. After suffering multiple miscarriages, she now has a passion for women who have gone through the same journey.
Tyonne plans to start a foundation for miscarriage research within the next year. In the meantime, Tyonne is focusing on her new ministry, Hello Fear Ministries, where her mission is to connect, empower, and promote women as courageous leaders; facing fears and overcoming obstacles.
Ulelia Childs (affectionately known as Pastor U) is a native of Houston Texas. Pastor U is a teacher, leader, and conference speaker who demonstrates God's love to others. As the wife of Pastor Kermit Childs, she co-pastors Love Alive Family Worship Center.
Uleila is the Director & Owner of Love Alive Leadership Academy (An After school Program) where leadership skills and character are being imparted in the youth of her community.
